Default Newport or San Clemente Pier

Which pier would be better for fishing when the big swells are heading in? I'm heading out soon so FAST imput would be of the utmost appreciation. Thank you.

Well newport had minimal surf around it, but at the middle of the pier, there was a current that was really cruising. It looked as if there wasn't even any serious surf at all, but then again, all you had to do was look south towards Balboa  Newport pier isn't normally affected by south swells, just NWwesterlies. All the kiddies frolicking around no problem.
