    Default SMB 1/7/11 Migratory Sandbass

Did a very early morning lobster run with my friend Dennis. We were going to hoop the local structure, but someone setup right on top of us. They had the same color glow sticks and we did not feel like playing the guess which pot is yours game. We have plenty of lobster spots, so we let that guy have that area and moved up the coast. Made the long ride to the squid grounds and dropped our nets. We found the big lobsters again in the same area, but what was even better was we found the migratory sandbass there. We pulled on the bass all night. Lost count after 50. Didnt pull our nets very much because we didnt want to disperse the school of sandbass gathering underneath the boat. Ended our night at a local reef with some big fat sculpin for my weekend taco night. Got home at daybreak and slept in until noon. Going to make me a lobster breakfast after this. Life is good. Pictures from earlier:

Started the night out with a big bug.

    Average size we were getting.

    Our smallest one.

Dropped down our plastic and it was instant bendo!

    Lots of doubles.

There were some decent grade bass.

The average size we were getting.

    All night affair.

There were some Sandico mixed in.

    Same brood?

Next best thing to rockfish in January for California. Big fat scullys on this reef.

Have to explore this reef more. There were some decent calicos eating my mogombo plastic meant for the rattlesnakes.

Taco night is going to be good!

It was a ton of fun. See you all next time.

Green lights gave it away... but your secrets safe with me. Good going on the bugs, sculls, and grumps. When I get home tonight, I'll be loading up the tackle box with leadheads... ALL LEADHEADS.

It wasnt that cold in the beginning, but when it was nearing sunrise, I was feeling the cold seeping in. 2 thermals, 1 t-shirt, 1 hoodie, a columbia insulated puff jacket and a columbia waterproof jacket over that and I was OK.
