Thread: Bako foul weather report -b4 new years

Default Bako foul weather report -b4 new years

Hit the duct in the interim between holidays….

The main goals were to explore much more north…..

The rain came on and off on there ride out there…

Stopped at one spot before heading WAY North and as I stopped the rain like clockwork kicked in and started raining real steady..

Well I was geared up but wasn’t looking forward to a long wet night !

My efforts beared fruit right off as I got hooked up and…

    SUPER BENDO !

Man, this sucka was thumpin’ HARD !

    Head Shakin’

Peelin’ drag for several runs of 30-40’

    Wooo-hoo ! !

    Man….this is what it’s all about….gotta luv it !

As it went through another violent set of head shakes…I thought to myself…..

Ohhhh Crap ! the hooks on my lucky craft are gonna get torqued !

Please don’t torque flex on me…..

THEN…I looked up at my pole and watched it’s super bendage !

    Please don’t Break !

The pole was torquin out….fish pulin hard in the wide open current, this area is real deep and if the fish gets caught up in it…they work you extremely hard…

This was no typical Bako unit…

It must have been related to Arnold Swartzenegger…cuz it had power and wuz workin me HARD !

The net is in the truck 100 yards away (Dohhhhh!)

The duct is extremely wet so walkin down to waters edge wasn’t gonna happen…..

Well I just had ta take my chances….

I tuna slid her up the bank and it wasn’t an easy chore….

Finally got her over the edge of the cement into the mud….

    Success !

    Woo-hoo !

I think this fish was probably the most girthy striper I’ve ever caught in relation to length, the length of the fish would denote maybe an 8 to 8 ½ lbder but with the sheer girth I’d guesstimate it at about 10 ½ to 11lbs….

One sick fish !....It WAS FAT !

    What a battler !

I’m not sure my pics really indicate the sheer girth of this girl but here ya go….

    I headed up northern way..

    Pretty far north in fact…

Some sweet areas up there but I had all my efforts thwarted by EXTREME wind coupled with the rain….

Got there and man, the rain n cold were brutal !

Only fished it for about 45 minutes and couldn’t take it any longer..

Had some bait with me just in case so I thought I’d sling a bait line out, sit in the truck and see if the extreme wind passed…..40 minutes went by and no sign of relief…

    Bailed out…

Stopped one other spot rolling back out north but it was still way too blown out….

Fished it for 20 minutes and had ta return to my truck…

Drove the long haul back….stopped at 2 spots I normally fish…

    Nothing…….

Alright…last stop…been a rough night but I got a nice fat chunker in the ice chest so I guess I can’t complain at all !

    Then…….

    HookUp~

It was now daylight…and my lipless crank got CRUSHED !

I battled that sucka in and it hit the pavement…

A nice solid fish to top off my limit…

Slammed it in the ice chest and HIT THE ROAD !

    2 strikes…

    2 fish

Ashamed that my northern adventures were thwarted by weather but I’ll return another day for that redemption (I hope !)

The water clarity was not good but not as bad as 2 weeks prior.

    Till next time,
    Gary

    Nice catch.

What kind of lipless crank bait are you using Gary?

    sweet report, nice looking fish

too bad to make such a dedicated run only to run into those conditons

i bet if the duct began at the NORTH pole, gary would eventually make his way up there

It's a KPN style lure, been making them myself.

Fishing it deep in certain zones where I can get through the current down low..

I would imagine the frozen kind

    (couldn't help it).

Seriously want to try the duct seeing the fish you all pull from there.

That's a nice fatty! Too bad about the harsh weather further north but hey...you managed to catch the limit.
    Congrats!
btw, SWEET last photo. The camo suit blends in very well with the background.

Nice hogs, rack 'em! Great job introducting them to the pernicious steel under the inclement conditions.
