Fishing in Long Island, NY & Rockport, MA?

Ok, so I didn't know where to post this inquiry. But does anyone have any experience on Long Island, NY or Rockport, MA? I think they mainly fish for stripe bass. Line size, rod size, artificals, bait? Went ocean fishing with a friend of a friend on the southern side of Long Island but he didn't really know what he was doing. Nice boat though. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I just got back from a week in Montauk. The stripers are definitely in. We fly-fish, but I could still probably give you some pointers on where to try surf casting. I also could recommend a good tackle shop in Amaganset, the owner - Harvey - is a guru, and would definitely point you in the right direction.
