Default Lookin' for White Seabass in Monterey

Headed up to Monterrey with Mike (Ironmachin) last weekend to fish with my uncle Phil for white seabass. Mike took some great pictures on the drive up.

we headed out from the marina about 7am and fly-lined fresh dead squid all morning. at around 1130 Phil called our cousins Tony and Steven to see if they were out fishing. Tony was rockfishing and doing pretty good, so we decided to pack it in and switch it up. i was tying up a dropper loop set up when my clicker starts to scream. i throw my rockfish setup to the curb and start reeling. i get about 10 cranks in and the line goes limp. "It's come right at us" i yelled and start cranking. the entire fight the fish swam right to the boat, with maybe 1 or 2 big runs. 5 minutes later we get color, and the thing has a jellyfish on it's head like a hat. Phil hits it with the gaff and i go NUTS!

    BOOM!

we drove back the next day, fishing a few spots on the aqueduct with no luck. still it's nice to break up that long drive back to LA with some casts.
