Santa Rosalia, Baja California Sur, Mexico--Sea of Cortez...San Bruo and Tortuga Isla
My brother, a friend from work, and I took a 2 week trip to Baja for another shot at some killer fishing around San Bruno Island and Tortuga Island with Hinkley Sportfishing captain Ed Duitsman. I went hoping to kill some big Yellows, but we found other bullies in the playground this time around. They did not dissappoint.
Short story...left Barstow, CA on Sep., 25th and returned on Oct 6th. 2 days down and 2 days back. Every day in between was up at 3:30 -4:30 am and catching bait before sun up. Then we shot off to some testing of the area and known hotspots. We started on the Rooster fish and then moved on to Dorado and Cabrilla. Once we had a clearing in the weather for a crossing to Tortuga we shot out there and tossed some bait. Next thing I know line is slack...but shouldn't be in 400ft. and I'm only half way down...then a 9' Sailfish launches 75' from the boat. Once we figure out it is on my line I'm scared to death...I wasn't geared for this...I was after Yellows. We battled for 45 minutes before getting him boat side. Then the real fun begins. Ohhh the insanity of it all. Oh, I said this was going to be short. So the freezer is full of all kinds of tasty stuff from the Sea of Cortez. Trip of a lifetime.
5 Sail Fish 7-9'
12 Dorado
6 Cabrilla
4 Rooster Fish
1 Amberjack
2 Yellow Tail
Several Rock Fish
Other stuff I can't remember...puffers, trigger...bla bla bla
Enjoy the pics.
