Finally Steppin' Up, BOOKED!!!

Ever since I joined FNN, I've learned and taught others from what I know about fishing. FNN motivated me to become a better fisherman, thanks to everyone on here. And after taking out plenty of friends & family out fishing, I thought it was finally my turn to step up my expierence. I've only fished the piers, jettys, harbors, surfs, half day & 3/4 day charters, and yet I still have nothing worth bragging about.

So finally, I just booked my 1st 2-Day tuna trip. I've been keeping up with reports from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, and the bites have been looking good.

Since I work in Las Vegas, Mon-Fri. The Toronado takes off at 9pm Fri and returns Sunday evening. So once we get back, ill have to drive back to Vegas (yippie...)

I have a few questions about preparing for this trip:

What and how much tackle should I bring?

What size test line should I spool up with?

What size hooks should I knot up?

Should I shower & shave before the trip?

Gear:
Rods- Two Cal Star Jig Sticks & Seeker Blue Lightning Inshore Series.

Reels- Shimano Torium 20, Daiwa Grandwave 50x, & Daiwa 2-Speed LD40.
(Still debating on buying a Shimano Trinidad 20 to replace the Grandwave)

Any of your help, suggestions, etc is much appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

*and yes, im hoping to pop my tuna virginity and eat my first tunas heart!

Good Morning!
When I head out, I bring as little as possible.
Bring at least,
1) extra line and top shot. at least 20# mono, do calcs for braided.
2) bait hooks, size 1/0 and 2/0.
3) some egg sliders 1/4 and 1/2 oz
4) take some kibbles to save a few bucks; jerky, nuts, fruit.......
5) fish cleaning is going to be $5 per tuna. so bring enough cash. also for tips.
6) wind breaker and extra clothes. I'm not sure if that boat has shower. call and ask or go online and look.
7) sealable baggies for your camera, phone, i-pod...etc
8) if you think you might get sea sick, some meds would be helpful
9) sun block, hat and polarized glasses
10) the rods and reels you have are just fine, i wouldn't go out and buy the trini. bring all 3 reels and both rods. just in case something fails.
11) THE MOST IMPORTANT THING....BE READY TO THROW OUT YOUR LIVE BAIT AFTER THE TROLLERS GO OFF. FIRST BAITS IN THE WATER ARE THE FIRST TO GET HOOKED UP!!!

I think that's about everything, if I forgot anything I'm sure others will chime in.

The tuna this season are in a plunker bite, meaning long soaks with 1 or 2 fish hooked up at a time. Very few in any troll fish. Not the typical wide open everyone hooked up at once type bite. Take the extra time to pick a good lively bait, no red nose and don't be scared to drop down to 15 lb test to get bit.

I just got back from a 2 1/2 day on the pacific star.
26 anglers 48 fish.I got 4 and jp albie the first day,
runner up yf on second day.
What was working was 15# or 20# test with floro
20# leader.I did get a 35# yf on 25# with 25#
floro leader though.
It is a pick bite.Long soak did not get bit well.
Change your bait often.Cast in the downwind
corner,soak it till around the other corner a
couple spots and start over.

Alright anglers & anglettes! The day for me has finally came. Waiting to aboard the Toronado of Pierpoint Landing for a 2-Day trip. I don't know what to expect, but hopefully im ready!

And instead of picking up a new Shimano Trinidad, I decided to take my lil bro on this trip as well (TFC_BigBoi).
