Where can I buy live bait on land? Anchovies, Shads....in LA or OC.

    Thanks,

hey you're from Montebello too! nice.

Do you have a container or sort that you can keep them alive? If so, you may just want to catch it yourself? I've done that at mothers beach, or any pier is good too.

Redondo sportfishing pier (the short one) I know has bait on weekends (usually)

    thats all I know.

Maybe you’ve seen me driving around, Green Truck with fish stickers on rear window. I have some good buckets and 2 aerators. I feel like a noob…but how do you catch live bait at mother beach, the pier or anywhere else?

    Sabiki rigs Bro.
You can buy them at Big 5 already assembled. Just put a little bait on them and you generally will get between 1-3 each cast, as long as the fishies are cooperating.
    Good Luck

I've used Sabiki's off the pier many times, all I catch is Mackerel.

Tear up a bunch of white bread into tiny pieces then toss out a pinch every minute.

Use a small sabiki rig and bait each hook with 1/8" piece of squid tenacle on each hook.

Try letting it hang there and don't bounce it too much for catching smelt or dines.

    Type in ' sabiki ' in youtube.com

How to make a sabiki rod so the hooks wind up the middle (ghetto stye)

I usually use a umbrella bait net, works better than a sabiki.

Question: are throw/cast nets illegal to use here in socal?

I think using a bait net will keep the bait alive longer after catching.

Yep they are illegal, unless your north of Pt Conception they are legal for surf smelt.
