Default Fishing in the Dark 8-14-2010

Decided to hit up the moonlight event. Got fresh bait at CI harbor, a mix of dines and chovies....Picked up my friend Jimmy and was finally able to get my boys to get out there with me....

Arrived in line by 6:00 and got the grill out cooked up some grub.

The plan was to fish the bouy line and if no bite we would head elsewhere...

    Off we go!!

    Jay getting ready to slay...

Jaime waiting for the bite to start...

We got to the buoy line and baited up...Took a little while for the bite to start but once it did we were hooked up about evey 20 minutes......Fishin in the dark is a little difficult with 4 people on the boat...Lots of tangles and I would guess I retied lines about 20 times that night. It was crazy because at one point all 4 of us were on bendo but turned out we all caught the submersible light!!!! LMAO we had a good laugh with that one......A lot of work on my part which was a pain in the *** but well worth it...We had a great time out there.... No wind and nice weather for the most part.... The stripies loved the bait and didnt seem to care whether it was a chovie or dine on the line....We killed alot of fish, farmed alot of fish, and tossed back a ton of dinks.....Had a great time out there...

Sorry I didnt take too many pics because I forgot my camera...These crappy ones are from the cell phone...

Saw a few members out there....KPN and Fishbones, nice to meet you Alex.....Texted with Hitts in line for a bit...Glad you got the big one man!!!

    See ya on the water.....

Nice Job!!!! I'm new to FNN and I have a few questions on this moonlight fishing in Castaic. Is it ok to use a 12ft. boat at night? If it is, do I need lights or any other safety gears? Thanks

    12' fine...thats what I have....

You will need running lights, that consists of an "all around" light and the front navagation light (green and red).

you can buy clamp on versions that run off "D" batteries at Walmart....thats all I use..

NOTE: once you put any sort of motor on any small boat (I beleive it's 16' and down) you will need nav lights.

I beleive a rowboat is a different story if not under power but don't quote me on that...

No fire extinguisher necessary for that small of a boat either (I beleive it's 14' and down for extinguisher exemption -but again don't quote me)..

Definately no extinguisher necessary for a 12 footer

I picked up a set of these lights at Walmart a couple months ago. They work great and you can move them to another boat if you need to.

One of my bulbs burned out. I replaced them both with LED replacement bulbs. Now the batteries should last and last.

They sell LED versions now but don't pay more than $10 extra for the LED versions thats what the Nite Ize bulbs go for.

Very true...I've tried time and time again to torch a 12 footer....and they just refuse to burn!!
