Default Castaic Lake 8/12/10 Lost a Big One =(

Decided to head up to Castaic Lake right after finishing up the workday. I have not been up to the lake in nearly two weeks, so I thought it would be a great time to go. Got to the lake at nearly 2:00 pm and hoped for a wfo evening bite like last time. Didnt happen. But I did hook up onto a monster. It nearly spooled me and I was going to chase to it down. It was a impossible feat doing it alone and unfortunately it popped off in the process. Felt too frustrated and went home right after. That totally sucked. Pictures:

Nice day. Dont let the eye deceive you, the lake lice was in force today.

    First bendo of the day.

Schoolie. I let him live another day.

    Another bendo!

Better one. I let this one go also. There will be plenty later or so I thought.

    Feels like a better one.

Nice chunky one. This one was swallowed the hook pretty deep. I cant released this one. He will make someone a nice fish dinner.

Then it happen...it hit like a freight train! I couldnt even lift the rod up all the way. Half the rod is bent into the water. My reel spool is filled to the brim and from the picture, half my line is gone! It went deep then it went up and away from me. I was able to gain line a few times but when it started to run, there was no way to stop it. I started my engine and ran to my bow where the fish is going. Almost 3/4 of the spool gone now. I put my rod against the boat and held it down with my right foot, while pulling up 100+ feet of anchor rope. I am going to chase this sucker down. Then it made a super surge.......then pluck.....it was gone. I was not mad at all. I was in total awed. So guess what I did after?

I went home. Big Striper 1, Me 0.

    One causality.

Thats all for the day. I did not have fun at all. I officially hate striper fishing. See you next time.

    Hey Marzocchi,

Sorry to hear that you lost a big one.

It's always the big one that gets away, isn't it? At least we remember the big one. Who cares if a little one gets away?

It looks like you did well out there.

Very nice report, great story. Sorry the big one beat you this time. You'll get another one just as good on again.

Hey it's stuff like that that get you all excited and determined. There is a lot of sport AND luck involved in fishing.

I so feel your pain. Those moments you re-live over and over, or at least I do.

    Next time...........

    Hey marz,
it sounds like you had a rough dat out there...
That fish must have been the big one.
I think the big boys are out now and those days of 4 or 6lb line are not going to cut it...
    10-15lb min...
And let them run as much as they want in open water... Wher can they go????
You are still the stripper king...
    Mb.
