Santa Barbara Coast with Exfactor on Sunday 8/8. A Nice Change of Pace.
Got a call from one of my S.W.A.T. brothers Mikey (Exfactor) saying, “Hey Arthur, I know you haven’t been in much of a mood to fish lately but why don’t you hop on my boat a couple of times and let me show you a thing or two about fishing the Santa Barbara Coast from a different perspective.” Can't resist and always open to learning new things, I agreed to join Mikey on his nice water toy to learn a few different fishing techniques to broaden my horizon.
Mikey, thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness in reaching out to me during challenging times… you are a good friend. Looking forward to fishing with you a lot more… and nailing that 40” plus Flattie!
It was fun and educational being Mikey’s deckhand. I learned how to tie several different rigs and use different types of set-ups. How to make bait with a Sabiki rig. How to drift fish with live bait. How to navigate the coastline and read all the electronics on the boat, and how to bounce-ball for Halibut.
Got a bunch of shorts, a couple of legals, a lot of Sharks and a variety of other species.
Not only that I got to learn from the best… I now have a freezer full of Halibut fillets. So I can keep releasing my surf pets…
To the rest of my S.W.A.T. brothers… I’ll make my way back out there with the rest of you guys soon. Thanks for your friendship and support. You guys are the best!
"Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose."
Enjoy the pics…
Mikey has an awesome boat!
24” bounce-ball Halibut.
What kind of fish is this? We caught this colorful guy while making bait.
Halibut with an attitude. This little guy attacked a Sardine twice his size.
I think we got bit Mikey…
34” Flattie. Drift fishing.
Beautiful and relaxing day…
Parting shots.
License plate on Mikey’s truck… very cool!
Wingnut Pug says, “So many Halibut to catch, so little time…”
For my friend Dana.
I'll Remember You... By Arthur Lai 7/28/10
Now that all my tears have reached the ocean,
And the healing process has been set in motion.
You're no longer bound to this Earth, your spirit free,
But a part of you will always stay right here with me.
Somewhere down deep inside my Heart,
Your Love and Friendship will never part.
I will remember you when the tides come in,
When I feel the cool breeze of an onshore wind.
You will be there in the crashing surf,
And with every fish that I put on the turf.
You will be a breath of fresh morning air,
And in every sunset, you will be there.
I will smile at the memories as I recall,
All the ups and downs, the rise and fall.
The laughter, the tears, the good and bad,
And all the good times that we have had.
It's almost like you never even went away,
Because your memories are here to stay.
You see my friend, you will live on,
In my Heart and Mind long after you're gone.
The only thing that I can't replace,
Is that beautiful smile upon your face.
So farewell and please remember me too,
Up there in Heaven, doing whatever Angels do.
And one of these days we shall meet again,
Until that day comes... tight lines my friend.
