Default Montanumental fishing! Hebgen lake Montana

This report is coming a little late but i wanted to share some of the awesome fishing experience that I had at Hebgen lake in Montana and some pics from the journey. I would wake up at 5 and start my fishing for the day it was non stop german browns till 2 with an occasional rainbow or what looked to be a rainbow but I'm thinking they could have been steelheads or cutthroats because there meet was orange like salmon meat ( sorry no pics of these ). I caught two bigger browns one being my PB trout it was 24 inches and had to be at least 4 p's the other went 19 inches and was probably 3 p's (didn't have a scale). The first pic will be the larger one.

Jesse....sounds like a great time and those are some fabulous brownies! The trout you were catching were almost certainly rainbows.....could be some cutt or cuttXrainbow hybrids. The color of the flesh is determined by the diet of the fish....in lakes with small crustaceans rainbows can get some very dark orange meat....usually very tasty when that color.

    Again....great trip... Brian

Thanks brian, I was wondering what was up with them, the rainbows I kept are some of the best tasting I've ever had.

Nice looking fish!! What were you using for bait? Going to Yellowstone next week to do some Fly fishing along the Madison, and planned on taking the family to Hebgen lake for some family fishing.

Man those are some good looking "Browns"....Well done!!!!!!!!

Thanks for reporting. That looks like a worthwhile place to fish.

Where'd you stay? i'll be camping in between Hebgen and Quake lake for the next two weeks. Will be fly-fishing the entire time and should have plenty of pics to follow. Nice quality Hebgen browns and bows', if anything they may be a cross between the yellowstone cutthroat and rainbow, as the madison river feeds hebgen, which flows through yellowstone park. Looks like a great trip

    Geoff
