Drop shot......
Use 6# fluoro/mono... I often go down to 4#... Depends on structure and conditions..
Use a Uni to Uni knot to attach maybe 60/100 ft to your 8#+ main line.
(always use heavier main line, that way the short leader will break first).
Fluoro is expensive, so I dont fill the spool with it, just use top shots...
If you can afford it, a spool full makes it easier...
Tie direct to this fluoro/mono top shot.
Break offs and re-ties will eventually get it to short, then uni to uni a new top shot on....
Casting the knot through the eyes constantly will cause knot to break much faster.
So I use enough to avoid it going through eyes on the cast, or short enough that it doesnt go through eyes...
Thats my story, and Im sticking to it!!!!!!!

Maxima ultra green in 5 pound test, that is strong and it gets bit!!
Good luck!

Right now I'm using a 8 lb main line (CXX) with a 6 lb flouro topshot. I use the uni to uni knot and only use about 6 ft worth of topshot. I've actually thought about switching over to a 4 lb flouro and see what happens.

New to bass fishing, new to dropshotting, buy 8lb. fluoroclear from pline. They make it in green and clear. It's pretty strong and forgving, it casts well, and does not have much memory, and to top it off, it's cheap. For YOU, I can not think of a better line to start out with!!!!
