Dana point kelp.

Has anyone here fished the kelp right near dana point? Is it a productive area? I'm planning on renting a skiff this Thurs and I can take it about mile into the ocean, which i'm positive is far enough to hit some kelp beds. What kind of fishing do you guys prefer there? Any Tips for me, I'm new to this. All info will be greatly appriciated, and a report will follow! Or better yet, anybody want to take me out and show me the ropes? I have gas/beer money haha.

Hey guys we are renting this thursday, and we need one more fisherman/woman. the cost is aprox 45 bucks plus bait if you so choose.
Please come show me the ropes as I'm not very familiar with kelp.
