How do you get rid of "Notifications"

Cant you turn them off on your "user CP"? If not, just ignore the little red highlight.

mine goes away when i check out what ever its trying to notify me of

To get rid of Private Messaging (Notifications) you will want to click on Settings on the top right (to the right of Notification at the top of the site).
Then on the left hand side under My Settings you will want to click on General Settings.

Navigate down the page to Private Messaging, there will be an option for On or Off.
