Default 4/24 NPH Very productive day

Today was a very good day. It was me, my usual buddy Donnie as well as Tam who was thrilled to come because he has never used swimbaits before. He told me that all he catches are mackies and he wanted to learn how to catch the better stuff in the water. So I told him grab your trout rod, come along with us and have a good time. It turned out we had a great time.

We launched the boat out around 6:45-7am. Thanks to the overcast weather, the bite was wide open from the time we launched up until around 12pm when the sun finally came out. We almost had two triple hook ups, but me and Tam lost our battles while reeling in during the hot bite. So we managed to get 3 double hookups instead.

After 12pm the bite dropped exponentially as usual. Swimbaits weren't cutting it for us so we decided to troll the last few hours before we left. We did manage to milk a few more but it was still slow. We caught everything from bat rays, mullets, sandies, spotties, croakers, and a boat load of halibuts!

Here are most of the pictures, but I know we left out a few more. Altogether, we caught around 30 fish. All fish were safely released unharmed. Tam lost like 5-7 battles, I lost 1 battle and Donnie didn't lose any but it was not bad considering it was his first time out with the plastics. I would say the best part of the day was that Donnie only lost 1 jig head where me and Tam didn't replace a single swimbait. Enjoy the pics!

    Nice fish.

What is up with the tail less Batray ? Strike position ?

Is that the first Mullet you've landed there ?
What was the bait used for the mullet ? Mullets are Vegaterians like Ed Begley

I wonder if mullet would be good for big halibut bait ? Pretty popular bait across the south USA.

    Mullets Rule.

Any info on the Mullet ? Bait ?

I heard mullet are legal to snag ? Can't find anything on Mullet in the DFG SW reg book.

Butterfly Ray ? Never seen one.

If considered junk fish or whatever I find the Mullet and Ray more of a 'Rare Catch' and overlooked as a possible trophy catch.
Unless your just a Spotted Bay Bass type of fisherman.

Very nice report. Looked like everyone had a lot of fun. I wish we could've ran into those nicer spotties. Congrats on the rare mullet catch.

The only problem I have with this report is... the Raiders hat. Booo Raiders!

Lets just say that Donnie accidentaly snagged the mullet in hoping to catch a spottie.

For the ray, his tail is hiding right behind his body. He was in a weird position when I took the pic.
