I took the day off from work yesterday. I put a call in to Dan (Lowe Boat). He told me that the fish were biting and told me to come on out, so I headed for the lake.
I found Dan and Joe and set up and catching nice fish on a slow pick.
I set up with fish under me and didn't get hit, even when I saw the fish approach my bait on the fishfinder. I tried a few different baits, chovies, dines from a couple different bags, still no hits.
I was moving to deeper water when Loweboat picked up this one while I was changing spots.
I took this picture of him landing a nice fish with my cell phone then cropped it later. You can see it there in the net.
Here's a picture of Dan holding up the stringer. There are 4 striper and a catfish.
Nice catch Dan!
After I tried a few more sets with no hits the wind came up hard and blew me off of my spot. While I was pulling anchors to move to a sheltered spot, Dan went by and said he was headed for the barn.
I made a move to the buoy line and set anchor after a couple tries. I got some different dines that were frozen into a chunk out and started prying them out of the chunk with my 99 cent bait knife.
It was soon on. I missed a couple hits on my first rod while I was retying the second one before putting it out. When I rebaited the first one it was hit as soon as I got it to "The Depth Of The Day" 32 ft. Then it was on. I caught 3 fish one right after the other right out of the same spot. All of them were 3 1/2 to 4 lbers.
Then there was a lull. When they started back up I lost a fish due to not retying. After retying I got another on that pole as soon as I hit 32 ft., then hooked up the other pole while I was playing the one on the first pole.
The final score was;
5, 3 1/2 to 4 lbers
2 dinks, I gave the dinks away.
3 nice ones farmed
That 4 lb leader gets you hits, but be sure to test your knots again after landing fish.
Here's one getting ready to go into the freezer.
Here are his friends.
Here, they're ready for freezing except for today's dinner at the upper left.
