    Default Alaska pics..reds, kings, halibut..enjoy

im pretty new to this forum so these pics are a lil old but i thought id share my experience...

i have been fortunate enough to go on fishing trips to alaska with my dad, bro, uncles and good family friends so i thought id show some photos. i hope you enjoy and feel free to ask any questions that you might have...

my uncle, red fishing..one of the smaller ones

my cousin with a bigger red, roughly 9-10 lbs

filleting the reds..i wonder how they get the nickname "reds"?

halibut fishing, early in the morning. i think it was 4am since you have to fish the tide. beautiful sight tho.

our halibut catch. the biggest one is around 80lbs, the next one is sbout 60lbs and all the other were around 30-40 lbs which is average where we were fishing

king fishing, my 2 uncles. i believe they were 40 and 42 lbs.

    my bros king..45 lbs

and my cousins king, 57 lbs. biggest king out of all of us. he got what we call a "grand slam"..big king, big halibut and big red. lucky guy.

half of our catch..i think more than half of our luggage bags were fish boxes..gotta love it

and i gotta post this dude. wanted to buy him but had no way to bring it home. it was carved with a chain saw. pretty amazing huh? and plus it was like 300 something bucks hahaha

    "reds" are the sockeye salmon

i believe the "pinks" are the humpback salmon and "kings" are the chinook salmon. not 100% on the correct names for the kings and pinks tho.

Cool pics. Where in Alaska did you fish? I fished in Sitka 3 years ago but the water was too rough for me. How was the water for you guys? Was it calm? I want to go back again but I get too sea sick. Thanks.

for the reds we were in sterling, near soldotna and for the halibut, i forgot where we went out of but it was like a hour drive from sterling. as for the water being calm..you mean the ocean right? not the rivers. the ocean was like glass for us, pretty much just like a lake.
