Default Avila Beach, Port San Luis 6-15-09

    Hello Everyone,

I know this is a late report but I didn’t have access to the internet while I was up at Pismo Beach for vacation. I hope this is posted in the right forum.

Well, I was planning on trying some surf fishing, but I just couldn’t get my line past the breaking waves. I don’t do water very well, but I did try to get my husband to toss out the line from the water, but I think my weight was to light. It was windy up there as usual. I was tempted to toss my line out with my 6oz sinker I had LOL. Anyways, we ended up taking a half day trip out from Port San Luis on the Patriot for Rock Cod. We were out there a little before 5am. Here are some pics of the harbor.

Believe me, when I said I wasn’t one for the water, getting on this boat was not an easy thing for me to do. All in all, it was a really good trip. The crew was wonderful. I’m still kinda girly, but I managed to lip a few of the fish I caught. My sister doesn’t really fish but she did catch a few. Between the three of us (my sister, her boyfriend, and I) we had no problem catching our limit. I didn’t get to many pics while were fishing because I didn’t want to goop up my sisters camera. I’ll have to remember to bring towels next time LOL!

After my fishing fix was out of the way, that made time for ATV’s and sending the Husband and kid out for kayaking and surfing while I stayed safely on shore LOL!

    Take Care & Happy Fishing!

Troutdog – Getting on that boat wasn’t as hard as I thought. Thank goodness it wasn’t choppy out there. I don’t think I would have done to well then! Thanks for the Reply!

Fisherman57 – Yes we did just as well as the full day. I went back to look at their next day trip. They didn't do as well but still good none-the-less. We went to Fat Cats, Cracked Crab, Splash Café, Mo’s and Denny’s LOL! I didn’t try the Clam Chowder though. I don’t really eat seafood. I’ll eat the occasional shrimp here and there, but that’s about it. I did however, try some of the Cod we caught. My sisters boyfriend made some for me. I dunno if this is doing it any injustice, but it tasted just like fish sticks (Gordon’s Fisherman tune playing in my head). That area is my favorite place. I was sad to leave :-( What made it even more nice was from our hotel we could see Whales spouting.

    Take Care & Happy Fishing!

Cooool!!! Thanks for the report, looks like a great time! You may consider posting any reports from Morro Bay on South in the So Cal Saltwater section instead. That's where all the reports from this area are generally posted, including mine when I am up there.

Ambassadorhawg – Thanks. I was wondering where to post. I wasn’t quite sure if the area was considered Central or Northern.

Darius - I kept my happy butt on land with the Kayaking. My husband and daughter went though. They had a blast. They actually went out of the Pismo Area. They got into their Kayaks north of the pier, about 3 miles up. They did a Kayak tour of all the caves along the coast and bird poop rock as my daughter calls it.

I always liked Avila and Pismo and Shell Beach. We used to like looking at the tide pools along the cliffs. There is some good fishing out of Port San Luis for sure and it looks like you guys did O.K..
Thanks for the report, I always like hearing about The Central Coast since I lived there for 18 years.

    Default Great Vacation

Your vacation looks great; the next step for you could be to try kayak fishing. You look like you were ready all you needed was a pole. Just remember the waters are cold and don’t forget to wear a life jacket at all times when you are out on water.
