Thread: Tahoe/Truckee river

    Default Tahoe/Truckee river

Drove up to Tahoe this wkend. My dad went and got married again. I met him at the Douglas county Admin court in Stateline, on the South Shore, and we had breakfast at the American River Cafe in Harrah's. With a little gambling afterward, i managed to hit the big 1,000 on a $1 Wheel of Fortune slot.

    Neat, huh?

Anyways I headed back to the North shore and hit up the Truckee river between Squaw and Truckee. The flow was pretty heavy, as it seems they're letting water out of the big lake.

    Didn't catch anything, though.. :(

    :skunk:

I was using panther martin, mostly. And a nice Mepps spinner..
But it was pretty warm, and the water was big and fast.

I'll try again when I have more time to fish that spot and up and downstream, too. I once caught a GORGEOUS coho salmon/silver salmon a little bit downstream from there...
    I want another!

Just got back from four days at Lake Tahoe. I fished the Truckee in the Tahoe City "raft" area very early and late in the day. Many fish were taken on usual lures and baits fished DEEP. One afternoon when my family went rafting I met them at one of the pools I had fished. I put on my swim trunks and using a mask took a look (water at outlet was 62 degrees). Even after fishing there I was amazed at the number of trout in the river. Far more then I ever expected. From rainbow fry up to about two pounds....many around 10-12 inches. Also some native sucker or native type fish.

Another area of success is where the Little Truckee out of Boca Reservoir meets up with the Truckee. Restrictions apply but good fishing. Again, very early and late in the day. BTW Donner was wide open off the public

Right on! About the $1000 that is.

I was up there on almost that exact same stretch this summer and did OK with Rapala trout minnows. I also hooked up with a Kastmaster, but did not land her. I did not use any kind of PM, but the minnows worked well.
