Old Faces... Same Places... Team Bassboyz Local Report
*Report Written by Evan of the Bassboyz*
If it wasn't for Brian, Team Bassboyz really wouldn't be the same. Lets see, first he came up with the name, then he made the video, then he... well... dissappeared. Thats right, Brian packed his bags, stowed his fishing gear, and high tailed it to the White Mountains of New Hampshire in search of a better education. I mean who could blame him, the ocean was quite the distraction. Anyway, when I got a message saying "I'm back, lets go fishing", I simply couldn't think of any reason not to. So after some schedule synching, and some basic preparation, we put the boat in the water and headed out for some fun fishing.
The weather was great when we rolled out of San Pedro at around 10:00 am. Small swell, light winds, and sunny skies... beautiful. We decided to head up the line and fish the kelp and hardbottom along the PV coast. We started at outside of the pipes a little north of Point Fermin. It was a slow pick, but we managed to get a couple small calicos on the 4 inch Sexy Smelt Big Hammers. I saw a couple boats out in that area, including a small bass boat which I'm sure held some of the Bass Crew, and a larger boat which I found to be the Lurd Away. We went as far north as Point Vicente, but never really found a great bite. After a couple hours along PV, we headed back into the harbor to end the outing.
The harbor was crowded, with sailboats gliding in every direction. We soon found some biting sand bass, and caught a dozen smaller grade fish in about an hour. Mixed in with the Sand Bass were a big sculpin, and a nice brown rockfish. The harbor fish came on the standard colors, with a recent hot color, bubblegum ice, being a standout. We called it a day at around 3:00 pm, and headed home to clean the boat.
