Balboa Pier night fishing

Took my son out to fish BP last night for a smattering of YFC. It was wide open on the GS as soon as I drop the line down. However quite a few came unbutton so I don't know what happen. Anyways, fished next to a couple of guys using nightcrawlers and the YFC was going crazy for them. I guess the rumour of using nightcrawlers is true for the salt also.

I was there yesterday, 07-08 from 6 PM to 9PM and it was disappointing not only to me but hundreds of other people on the pier.
The whole 3 hours only about 5 mackerel were landed, one tiger shark, and a few YFC. Seems like only the guys fishing the surf were having some sucess.
We enjoyed the breeze and the sunset.
A lot of small smelt and that was it.

I didn't know that there are tiger sharks in the OC waters!!!! Are you sure it wasn't a nurse shark or maybe a leo?
