    Default convict and mammoth lakes

my brother and i took a quickly planned trip up north for a little three day fishing trip. very good time all in all minus the sunburn. lol.

we hit up convict lake the first day. this is usually our lucky hole but we only managed a couple of tiny browns on inflated crawlers. decided to leave the lake a little early cause it was getting pretty windy and we still had to check in and re-up the supplies.

early the next morning we decided to try our luck on the june loop. fished gull and june no action at all so about noon we headed back into mammoth.

we stopped by troutfitters to grab some hooks and fresh crwalers on the way to lake mary. asked the guy what was hot there right now and he told us to try some of these gulp! slamon eggs. so we got to mary and fished for a while on some crawlers with no luck so we headed to mamie. when we got to mamie i rememberd the salmon eggs and decided to try those out. got three really nice sized rainbows within the first 10 minutes. FINALLY we get to bust out the stringer. we caught about 25 fish all on those eggs.threw most of them back. my brother reeled in the best one at 3# and a litlle over 20 inches.

we went to lake george the next morning and caught a few rainbows and a small brown. nothing special. we did a little hiking and took some pics and then decided to head back to mamie. we caught all kinds of fish at mamie all on those little gulp salmon eggs. we got a couple of 1-2 pounders before we lift for dinner.

all in all it was a great trip. i wish we could have stayed a little longer to do some creek fishing but theres always the next time. anyways, thanks for reading. this is my first post on here but i have read all your guys reports for a long time and im glad i get to share one of ours with you guys.

thanks for the report! how are you fishing the gulp eggs, just like you would powerbait? egg singer w/ 2 ft leader and treble hook? do they float?

If you are using gulp eggs a single egg hook or mosquito hook would be better as it is easier to cover the hook. It's also easier to C&R if you catch a really small one or just choose to do so. Also, they're a little more expensive, but the "mojo" sliding sinkers work better than the egg sinkers since they get hung up in underwater obsticles much less.

Great report by the way ...
