Depends on the person. During a tournament situation, many find them absolutely necessary because they are that "extra edge". If you have the money, why not? Many lures cannot reproduce the action of an LC, which is why the Flashminnow is unparalleled in the surf.
I don't understand how you could possibly compare the entire LC lineup to the DD22? LC doesn't even make a lure to compare with the DD22 other than the Flat D20 which has a completely different action optimal for a completely different situation.
Only you can decide whether or not LC's are worth it.

if youre current crank works, why change it???
I think the proof is all over this forum that LC's work, whether you know how to utilize it correctly is really part of the learning curve.

as said, Both are different lures. LC is an unbelievably succesful company for having such awesome lures. LCs have actions like no other, better quality, and better durability than most lures. I've beat up my LC Flash Minnow and it stills works great, I have broken 3 crucials during the time I've owned it lol.... For Surf, Hands Down one of the best lures.... etc. I don't mine spending the extra $$$ for the extra chance at gettin' them! G'Luck,,,

Tackletour just did a deep diving crankbait shoot out. You'll find some information that you're looking for there.
