I knew of Kencor closing its doors . I did not know that Turners & Sport Chalet were not paying for the rods they had.

Kencor trout fishing rods are my fav. fishing rods. I will certainly be in contact with you to buy a few rods over the next few months as I am unemployed now and that is the only way I can buy them.

    Thanks for posting up

Wow I didn't know about kencor going out of business!

    Their rods are great!

How about the lifetime warranties they used to have?

    Good Luck with the sale.

    Default blah

the trout rods sell great but unfortunately all the saltwater, trolling, panga, and swimbait rods dont sell for sh*t..... why would anyone spend 109 bucks on a swimbait rod when all that happens is every insert on the guides pop out? ive seen more broken kencors then any other rod. dont go blaming sportchalet and turners for putting a company out of business...if they werent paying for their product why would he keep supplying them over and over until he was in so deep he couldnt get out? that doesnt seem too logical..if they didnt pay the first time dont you think he would wait for a payment before giving them more rods? my 2 cents

I highly doubt Sport Chalet or Turner's put him out of business. If a company's business model failed, under/over projected demand, didn't have a good marketing stragegy, didn't have access to capital, expanded their line too much, had quality issues, etc, they might be inclined to blame someone else. I'm not necessarily saying Kencor had these problems, but if a retailer owed them money, they'd have a legal right to it. I didn't see SC or Turner's declare bankruptcy, which is about the only way they could not pay him. In today's economy it's truly survival of the fittest and blaming someone else for your demise sounds like a cheap shot.

Ive been dealing with Kencor for a decent amount of time. Theyve been in business for over 30 years making some of the best saltwater rods for years.

I have only seen one line of rod have guide inserts come out, those are the swimbait rods with ceramic guides. and more specifically, I have only seen it on one rod. I have origional sabres that Ive seen guides come off, and also recently warrantied a seeker black steel for a guide coming off. it happens .

Kencor has been known for the Tenlew Magnaglass saltwar rods which are some of the most flexible rods yet have amazing backbone, and considering the mainline companies that are now popular Jaws rainshadow etc, many of them are outsourcing their blanks to China

Kencor is also known for their ZIBRA line of rods, which basically have an undectable Backbone. theres nothign out there like that, unless u go and get ur blank acid wrapped.

What happened with Kencor is easily understandable, if you know what happened.

for years, when Kenny owned Kencor, ALL blanks were made in Japan, which is more then can be said for any manufacturer nowadays making rods.
No one could ever compare or touch Kencor at that time. Kennys idea was to keep limited distribution and reputation high. which is exactly the way it was. When Kenny died, and James took over, he decided to introduce Chinese blanks

once word got to Seeker and Cal star Pro staffers that Kencor had chinese rods, they bad mouthed the rods on forums like this and others where word of mouth can ruin an already small company.

yea, u do get some rods that break, as with all companies, but thats what a 5 year warranty on their CHEAP rods was for. no one has a 5 year warranty on a rod that retails for $40-$80, again cant touch that

Ugly stick, yea theyve got a 5 year warranty
but if u want anything over a 1 year warranty on any rod, u gotta spend $150 - $300 for a lifetime warranty
Kencor still had that, along with cheaper rods

Reputation goes down, and so do sales.
Turners being one of their biggest retailers sales go down because of the economy, for one.
James goes in to collect, and they say sorry we need another 30 days... can we have some of the hot selling rods though to pay for the last batch? james gives them more

    It happened over and over.
guys come in with this kencor sucks notion now, and see a Kencor Zibra for $240 and think why buy this when I can buya Seeker for $200, which btw cant compare to the Zibra.. so it doesnt sell
Turners marks them down below cost
and doesnt pay for them, or gives the owenr less than cost and says " well we couldnt sell it for more so heres all we got"
u do that with enough product and ur balance goes up. Not to mention theres a MASSIVE language barrier. the owner has an extremely heavy accent and is very hard to understand, so the communication isnt there

    Turners is shady
They owed Heckler and Koch ( gun company) over $100,000
the owner simply wasnt paying his bills. why do u think Turners just got bought out?
now its owned by 3 different guys
and because its under new ownership, their old debts are cancelled, or thats how the new owners are treating it...

Turners is a big company and has been around for 20+ years themselves.. theyve got good attorneys.
its not worth going to court over itll cost James too much money and time, and his attorney will just end up with the money.

    does that make sense?

And sport chalet, dont know their complete story other then they hadnt paid the owner for over 7 months
when u consider how many stores they have and their Kencor inventory, thats a floating balance on stock easily over $40,000 +
for a 2 man company with 1 tiny warehouse, that + Turners, in a bad econmy = out of buiness
You can spend months going to court and trying to fight it, but instead James started 2 more buiness to keep money flow

So since your selling these rods and standing behind them will you honor their warranty, because if not I would expect them to be heavily discounted.I also happen to be one of those people who bought a kencor rod NZ66-2v and when it broke and I took it to a kencor authorized retailer, I was expecting a replacement or something they basically told me I was S.O.L.The rod is a great rod but i`m also out $50 bucks, so who knows how many other people got burned by all of this that has transpired.
