Most have converted over to "Ultra-Light" type flasher/dodger, either the tiny inline spinners intended for kokanee, or miniaturized single blades smaller than a dollar bill, typified by a Luhr Jensen size 040 "Trout and Kokanee Dodger" .
That way they can be trolled off a downrigger with ultra-light tackle [like 6 pound line] so you can feel the fight of even a moderate-size fish.
They do work extremely well at Irvine, although not many anglers use them.
Ya I used to think they were pretty archaic myself but every time I use em, they kill. I was up at Medicine Lake (up near Ore/Cal border) just a couple week ago. I pulled a nickel/silver prism Ford out of the old man's tackle box while my brother was trying his kokanee spinners and then a dodger...I couldn't keep the fish off my line and they couldn't get a bite to save their lives.

But fish and tackle act differently depending on where you're at so that may not be the case down here. Thanks

    Default flashers

It's not that the old stuff doesn't work, it's that unless you hook something over 5 pounds, there is virtually no fight.
The whole point is to attract a fish over to look at your bait/lure, so under low-visibility conditions, those big flashers pull fish over from a longer distance.

    Default Some Irvine Tips

I would fish shore just because when i bait and wait in my tube i always drift and my line gets all fowled up.

    The Basic Irvine Setup
2 or 4 lbs test mainline
    1/4 ounce weight
12-24 inch 2lbs test floro leader
    #16 treble hook
