Default Bishop - Parcher's Resort 6/24-6/28 Lots of Pics!!!!

We had a wedding to go to in Sacramento on the 23rd so we decided to make a vacation out of it...

So we head out from Sacramento Sunday around 10:00 A.M. heading to Bishop for a 4 night stay at Parcher's resort.
We decided to take the 80 east towards Reno and cut around Lake Tahoe since we had never seen Tahoe before. Alls I have to say is that the ride from Sacramento to Tahoe is such a beautiful drive...

    Here are some pics:

    Donner Lake

Lake Tahoe: From Left To Right (Jaime, Jaycob, Crystal, Michelle, ME)

So since we stopped a few times along the way, we didn't get to Bishop until about 5:00pm and still had to go to the store. We arrived at Parcher's around 6:00 and by the time we got everything unpacked we had a little time to explore....

Monday morning I get up around 5:30 Am to check out a spot on the creek called Parcher's hole. I forgot to bring the camera this time... I used a small split shot with a salmon egg on about 18 inch leader. After about the 2nd drop in the hole I hook up on a nice rainbow about 12 inches, after checking it out it was safely released...
I caught 2 more within 30 minutes of the first one but after that I kept getting snagged on the rocks. After having to retie hooks about 8 times I was a little frustrated and decided to take a break. I go back to the cabin and see if the boys want to go back. My son Jaycob did so off we go, I grab the camera this time but unfortunately we didn't catch any... Here's a shot of Parcher's hole:

After about an hour of no luck, we went back to the cabin for breakfast. After that we all got in the car and headed to Intake II. Keep in mind this is the first time I have ever trout fished in my adult life so I was praying to get my family on some fish.... My wife and step-daughter have never fished before so I am trying to get them "hooked".... I had got their poles rigged up the night before so we were pretty much ready to go.
We get to Intake II and found us a nice spot to fish. Boy was it hot out!!! We fished from noon until 4:30...
My wife's pole was rigged with power bait. Jaycob was rigged with worms, and the rest of us were going to start off tossing lures....

My wife states that she was going to get the first fish. She did get the first bite but she didn't hook it good enough and it got away... Bummer.... The rest of the time I didn't really get to fish myself. Crystal and Jaime got snagged throwing there lures, then Jaycob gets snagged, so now I have 3 poles to re-rig. So pretty much this kept happening so I was really busy!!!!! Then I get a chance to fish and I hook up with my red/gold TB!!!! Yeah, break the skunk... After taking a pic of it, It was released. Sorry but the pic came out blurry....

So we decide to call it a day and drive up to Lake Sabrina to check it out. Really nice looking Lake!!! There were a couple people fishing from shore and from up at the top where we were you couple see about 25 trout swimming right past them. It was a pretty cool site...

Tuesday we decide to go to South Lake and rent a pontoon boat for the day. We get there about 11:00Am (Couldn't get everyone up early enough) and fished until about 4:00...

All fish were caught with garden worms and a few were caught on lures....

We anchored up at one of the spots that the guy at the shop told us about, and they were pretty much wide open for us so we had a lot of fun. We caught close to 50 trout. They were mostly stockers but every once in a while we caught some that looked to be natives.. Really pretty fish.... I released as many as I could but we ended up keeping about 10 or so.

My wife hooks up first.... She way out fished us by they way. She probably caught close to 20 herself.. She was soooo scared to hold the first one...
    LOL

    This one was really pretty!!!

    DOUBLE HOOK UP!!!!!!!!

Jaycob Holding his first fish of the day. It was a slow day for him....

Everyone caught some fish and we had a lot of fun!!!!!

We got back to camp and before cleaning my fish I finally got to meet Smitty. He is a really cool guy.

The plan for Wednesday was to go horseback riding in the afternoon, so I decide to go back to South Lake and fish from the shore. I asked everyone if they wanted to go and only my son Jaycob wanted to go so off we went. We got there about 8:00 Am and fished until 1:00 Pm.

We found a nice spot and stuck to it all day.

I had 1 pole rigged with inflated Crawler and the other one to throw lures. Jacob's pole was rigged with a cast a bubble and worms which he was baiting up himself. The thing was when he would cast out the water would come out and the bubble would end up floating. But that didn't stop him from catching fish!!!!! He out fished me 18 to 6!!!!!! He is still learning how to cast so he was getting a lot of practice in and it was paying off...
I was tossing lures pretty much the whole time. I would be able to get them to chase it but hooking them was another story... We also saw some huge fish swim by every once in a while. They looked to be brown in color and would just cruise on by us...

We had a lot of fun and we even had a really cool visitor!!!!

After we got back we got to relax for a couple of hours before the horseback ride. We rode up a trail that ended with a view of South lake from high above which was a great way to end our trip!!!!!

Packed up and left for home early Thursday morning.... Man do I wish we were still there!!!!!!

Anyone who hasn't been to Parcher's I highly recommend going. It's a top notch place to visit..... The whole family are very friendly and fun to talk to... I relly enjoyed talking to Smitty's grandma. I ran into her a few times on our trip and had a lot of fun talking with her. She was so nice!!!!

    Hey Shock,
Very impressive catch, you had me fooled that you have never trout fished before....great job! Hopefully the kids are "hooked" for life, you certainly got them headed in the right direction. That must have been a beautiful drive from Tahoe...great group picture as well...especially with the Dodger gear on!

Thanks one_leg.... The bugs weren't too bad. There were mosquitos but bug spray does the trick... When we go camping in Ojai bug spray doesnt seem to work at all but up there they stayed away....

Great write up and photos. Smitty's grandmother is a very nice lady to talk to. I spoke to her on Memorial weekend when I stayed at Parcher's with my girlfriend. It's good to see the water level come up on South Lake. It was low on Memorial weekend . I got to talk to Smitty about giving up my secret fishing holes though. LOL. Glad you guys enjoyed your trip. Your kids will remember it the rest of their lives.
    Thanks for sharing with us.
