    The last mini el-nino we had in 1997 we were catching firecrackers just outside newport harbor LITERALLY about 100 yds off the beach sand. Some buddies and I were lucky enough to catch about 10 each on swimbaits and iron from our jetskis. It was awesome

    Thats a monster yellow darn sea dogs they couldnt even eat the yellowtail because it was too big so they ate the belly and guts. Thats a great fish I like the others that posted above have also heard of the schools of home gard yellows that used to prowl king harbor. The days when they used to pump the warm water into the harbor. But this is the first I ever seen landed on the pier.
