    Default Gear Advice needed

ok i have been going fishing with my dad since i was to young to remember.. having said that i have been using his techinques since i was little and think they are a lil out dated and i really want to catch up with the modern fishing scene. I use a shakespere (sp?) spinning rod and a blank 6ft rod with a cork handle. it has done the job just think it's time to really get advanced now. so what do you guys suggest for some basic rods and reels for surf fishing and pier fishing. thanks any help is welcome. i have a good tackle box just need the right stuff in it.

What's your budget, what do you want to to target, and do you plan on using bait or artificials?

Wow, for $500 you can get some great stuff, but depends on what you want. Do you want one enthusiast setup or 2-3 good all around setups. Do you need tackle as well?
