Thread: Strange day at Cabrillo Pier

Default Strange day at Cabrillo Pier

29 years ago, my grandfather took me to Cabrillo Pier to fish during that summer.
I remember to this day the Bonito we had caught and what a great time I had....
like it happened yesterday. Since it is my sons last day of summer, I decided I
would let my son pick the spot and much to my suprise, he picked Cabrillo Pier.
I didn't ask why - we just went.

All I can say is, I didn't expect much because, well.... it's Cabrillo Pier! and things
aren't the same as they were 29 years ago!
Really only expected to catch some white croakers or big smelt if that.... but
"every dog has its' day" as they say...

A green Kroc caught the 2 Slime sticks, dropshot gulp minnow for the hali's and
everything else on strips of squid then mac when the squid was gone.
My son C&R'd so many macs it's not even funny. He had a great time on his last
day of summer, catching his 2nd favorite fish to catch. I'm glad he picked the spot,
    it worked out great!!

Now it's "BACK TO THE GRIND" for him

1 pic of each type of fish we caught except no pic of the monster walleye...

    Lots of these...

    3 of these...

    1 of these... (I.D. anyone?)

    4 of these...

    2 of these...

Side note: There were these 2 guys fishing with 9 poles when we arrived and I
smiled at them as we walked by. As soon as we picked a spot, I called it in to
the DFG but they never showed up. When we left, I checked the guys bucket
and guess what it had in there!!!.......... nothing ....I guess not all poachers
    walk away with something!

    Very nice report man.
It's always like that huh? The times you don't expect to do so well or are just hoping for the best because a spot isn't normally hot are the days that surprise you the most!

Earlier this season my first trip back to the salt I expected to have to work to find something but found my PB no problem. Weird like that.

Good to see you and your son out having a good time, putting summer to bed!

Always great to see you guys getting out and fish John. Nice variety of catch. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there isn't a rod limit fishing in the salt is there?

Thanks HT, finishing the summer on a good outing is what I was hoping for and it worked out.
Thanks for the I.D. on the fish, you are correct....
