No scuba for me in Socal. I've seen way to many toothy sharkies deep sea fishing over the years I've been here....
I scuba, and I have thought about the same thing....then I got a sling, and tried spearing once or twice- now I mainly fish(out of the water...) I don't think underwater fishing would be worth the effort. Buy a sling and try hunting.
I think Shark Park at San Miguel will do just fine, there is a small island offshore about 100 yards, known as Castle Rock. There is a ring of reefs and rocks that is about a mile across. This place is known as Shark Park. And for good reason. This is open ocean. Next stop, Hawaii. Great Whites and Open Ocean Makos frequent the place. While they seem to rarely present a problem, it you have seen one of these beauties here, you do not forget it. On an really clear day, you might be lucky enough to see some. There are Orcas there too. And a bunch of big fish.Originally Posted by Sansou

ha now go scuba dive all around catalina island.
I already have dove all around Catalina.
I have dove all the Channel Islands.
I would be willing to fish from the sea floor at Blue Caverns or Goat Harbor.
Bird Rock too busy. Windward side is too rough most of the time.
Oh, I was just wondering what happens if a big Sculpin wraps itself around you and starts thrashing about.
I maybe should have thought this thing through a little more.
