I suggest a couple books to read during those times between fishing. That is of course if you like to read, which I do personally.

Hmm... might be a little bit early for Guadalupe. I'm guessing you'll most likely be chasing tuna/albies/yellowtail. If you don't go to Guadalupe or San Benitos, then I'm assuming a couple of day's looking offshore for bird school's and kelp paddy's. Maybe spend the last day at San Martin or closer inshore to fish for calico's, halibut, seabass and other stuff.

I'm assuming you already know what tackle to bring. If not let me know.

Here's some of the stuff I brought on my 5 day last year that's not normally listed as must have items:

A collapsible chair. They allowed us to bring them out on the way down to Guadalupe and also at night if you wanted to relax on the deck.

Misc snacks, stuff like cookies, candy, assorted nuts or maybe some stuff that's different, bring enough to share.

If the Independence has a DVD player maybe bring some DVD's along. The Pacific Star has one and they have some DVD's on board but some of the other guys on the trip also brought some new ones too.

A little portable fan. On a couple of night's while sleeping it got a bit stuffy, turned on my little battery operated fan and I was fine the rest of the night.

Ipod. No need for me to explain this one. LOL

First Aid Kit. I know the boat's carry one but I like to be prepared and have some of the extra stuff that maybe they may not have. I carry the usual stuff, band aids, alcohol swabs, tape, etc. but I'll also carry small packs of Tylenol, Advil, Benadryl, Immodium, Pepcid, Neosporin and a few other things for the "you never know" situation. Everything for my first aid kit fit's into a fanny pack and I throw it in my duffel bag. Better safe than sorry.

Bring some old ragged shirts you don't mind throwing away. At the end of the day your shirt can get bloody and slimy. At the end of the day before you take a shower donate the shirt to the boat and they will usually use it as an engine rag before they throw it away. It also makes your duffel bag a little lighter when you get off the boat too.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your trip and looking forward to the report and pics when you get back.
