Id a fish w/out pix

Not much of a salt water fisherman went to a pier in long beach in search of macro for the catfish. But i caught instead was a yellow looking fish that had stripes like a stripper. Caught 4 of them on the pier near shore. They wer biting like crazy everyone around me were catching this fish. I overheard someone said they were yellow tail.....? Help plz i know a pix would help but unfortunately i did not take a pix of them.

Probably a yellow fin croaker.

Thk you very much appreciate your help! I got scared w what the website said about to be alert when eating them. Hope they aint no toxins in lb i ate mines fried.
