Default lets clear something up once and for all.

Looking at catalina from the california coast ...
you would assume the left end is the west end and the right side being the east end.

But that is just from the CA coast.

From the global perspective it is actually the opposite as you can see from the map.

Whenever i call out on CH 11, bait boat always claims to be on west end near Avalon (RED DOT IS BAIT BOAT). But in fact that is the EAST end! Just this has caused me much confusion...

Can someone fill me in.. im trying to locate the areas that the sharks are hanging out at.

No! Whenever you are talking about a land area, you must picture it from above as though you are looking at a map of it. That is the only way you will ever be correct about up, down, left, right, North, South , East or West.

If you want to get real technical that map is oriented correctly so the "east" end is actually the southeast end and the "west" end is actually the northwest end. Want some more confusion?

Check this - this map is also oriented correctly...

Most people think that if you travel from the Newport Pier to the Wedge that you are going south. It is actually southeast and you are "officially" considered to be going east (hence East Balboa and West Balboa blvd.).

what a handful! lol so when the bait boats claim to be on the west end (of avalon i assume) they really mean the south eastern end...
