Default Duct on Sat and Silverwood Sunday

Hit the Palmdale ducts for the first time ever with a friend. It was very nice to be out in the desert and a very new type of fishing experience for us. Awesome to be away from the crowds.
Started working the duct in the pm, using shad imitation lures. didn't know where to fish but the water wasn't moving and we figured this wasn't a good thing. Tried several spots randomly asking people from Sports chalet here and there, and finally settled down one spot. Day temps hit 100F high and shot down to high 70s during the night.
Two lines in using cut anchovy, and two lines working the shad lures.
Had two HUGE hits on the sit and wait lines, but both snapped!!!
no love on the lures at all. Was very difficult to find moving water.
Some questions for you pros if you don't mind helping out a newbie,
Is there a way to locate moving water in the duct? Whats the schedule for the gates opening? Where are the pumps located and are they always running? Any tips and information is greatly appreciated! pm is fine too!

Hit silverwood lake, and it was PACKED.....friend landed one dink striper on the lugworm by the marina and that was it. hot, crowded, people in every corner of the lake, didn't make out to be a pleasurable experience. there was a cove where HUGE carps were breaching the water! thought that was cool. at least we stopped by bass pro and picked up some nice shiny lures

    Thanks for reading guys!

    Default Duct info.

The duct starts up in San Francisco Bay and to my knowledge you will never find the water moving in one spot and not in another at the same time, in other words if you find it moving in one spot it's moving everywhere at that moment from what I understand. If they opened the gates near Ave. S then they have too open all the gates down stream the same amount until it goes through a lake like Silverwood that has room for more water otherwise the duct would overflow on the upstream side of the closed gates.
