    Default 6/16 --- 18 lb Halibut!

    700am--leave dock
    800am-- bought bait (live squid)
    10am'ish -- Big Halibut hooked!

We went to backside Catalina after buying some live squid from Avalon; we hit up some heavy kelp area. First drop of the line and my dad gets a heavy bite, didnt hook it. Then the same fish bites onto another guy on the boat, bingo.... hooked!

My friend yells, "whoa! this is a big one"
everyone (7 ppl) gather around to watch him pull it up.

As he is reeling it in, we start to see a large profile of a fish

once it surfaced we realized that it was a huge Hali.
    what a fish it was!!

me and my buddy , I am holding the hali (mind my hair just got out from diving), He has a nice size sculpin we pulled up. alot of bottom fishing with much success.

My dad was casting iron jigs for YT or cuda or any larger surface fish, no success.

a 4 lb perch! biggest one i have ever seen!!!

A 60-70 fish count total ALOT of scuplin. Very good fishing!!! We had a great time!

That hali made great Steaks, delicious!

I'm just guessing but that perch looks more opaleye-ish to me. But if it indeed is a perch, you really should look into it's exact weight and measurements. The state record for perch is 4lbs. and a couple oz (depends on exact species). Regardless, what a hog.

Nice job on the hali, too!

haha one_leg i do need a bigger ice chest! or a few more of them once the waters warm up some more.

v6v6v6: im not too sure what the exact species is either, i thought it was a perch...

This is the opaleye though.. similar perhaps your right

compared to this fish... ones dead ones alive there is a difference obviously

i have a lead that it is a halfmoon perch.

I looked up the pics and it seems pretty right on the dot with physical appearance.

SO i think this is cleared up on the fish id! nonetheless the thing was massive for a perch! As for world record, lol i am not sure! but if so congrats to my sister who caught it!
