Default Been looking at the Hummingbird PiranhaMax 160 PT....

To use on my kayak and float tube. Anyone here had any experiences with this model? It is the portable one. Thanks.

Skyler, what will you be using the fishfinder for? If you just want to something that will tell you the depth and to find structure, that unit should be fine. At 160V pixels and 4 level grayscale, differentiating fish from the actual bottom or type of cover would be difficult. IMHO, you should spend a little more for a unit with at least 320V pixels or save up for one with a color screen.

I have the Hummingbird 343C portable and this would be a good one to go with. Although its $300+, I found one on ebay for $210.

Check it out...its a step above the one you're looking at (I think).

I don't plan on using it so much to find fish as to find structure, and maybe some suspended striper schools. Generally, I'm planning on using it in conjunction with my gps to troll. I'd prefer something nicer, but it just isn't in the cards with my current budget.
