Fish caught in Willowbrook park lake may be contaminated

County health officials are warning fishermen (and women) to not eat fish caught in the lakes of Earvin "Magic" Johnson County Park in Willowbrook after testing showed that the fish may be contaminated.
Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued the health advisory to residents Friday after the samples suggested that the fish may contain contaminants above the levels considered safe for human consumption.
"Although the data is preliminary, I advise all residents to refrain from eating fish caught in these lakes until all further testing is completed," said Jonathan E. Fielding, director of public health and health officer.
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation has posted signs at the 94-acre park and around the lakes, advising residents not to consume the caught fish.
Samples taken from the park are part of a joint investigation headed by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Exxon Mobil and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. Officials are scheduled to gather next week to determine the nature and extent of the contamination of the lakes and fish.
