    Default Wed @ the Vine

I had been itching to hit the Vine for a couple of weeks but things seemed to keep on getting in the way but I decided that today was going to be the day for me. Woke up early, made some breakfast and was on the road and got to the line up at 530. Didn't bother to count how many were in front of me as it was a short line and I knew I would get some kind of spot that would be decent. Jumped out of the truck and thought that it was a lot warmer then it usually is (but still cold) to set up the poles and by the time I was done, it was time to start moving in. So far, great timing.

I set up in the boat dock cove and had my lines wet by 605 probably. Garlic power bait on one pole and a power mouse with my glow in the dark nitro worm on the other. I turned to grab my MP3 player and cup of tea out of the truck when my power mouse pole goes off! I set the hook and FISH ON!! As I'm fighting the first bad boy of the day I'm trying to figure out if my lines are crossed or if I have a double hook up going on with the other pole. It's a slow bite so I wasn't sure and just fought the fish I had and got him as quick as possible.....which wasn't to quick as he was buzzing my drag everytime he got close to shore. Well I finally got him in and forgot about the other pole while I pull the hook from the de-skunker and then remembered my other pole Ran over and didn't feel any tension in the line so I started to slowly retrieve and............FISH ON!! This was a bigger fish and a bigger fight then the first and I'm feeling good as I haven't been fishing for more then 10 minutes probably. I get that fish into the basket and toss the power mouse pole out since the set up was still intact and start to fix the powerbait pole. As I'm grabbing a new hook to tie on the drag starts spinning again on the power mouse pole......thank god for the bait runner I was fishing with! I run back and set the hook and have another fun fight with another great fish. After getting him in, the set up was still clean so a new power mouse went on and I went to grab a new hook again because when the last pole went off I dropped the hook I had and lost it. As I'm walking back the drag starts going off AGAIN! :OMG: This is still only 630 and I'm thinking it will be an epic and early day (somewhere between the four fish I also farmed one but don't remember when ). This was the best and biggest fish of the day as I got him in and I was extremely happy as it was only 640 and I had 4 good fish and farmed another.........I was trying to figure out whether to leave early or buy an extra pass............... JINX ...... The bite shut off at that point.....for me, as the guy on my left was starting to kill it. I had two more short bites with no hook set and by noon was planning my getaway as it seemed like the only person catching fish around me was the guy on my left and he left and gave his spot to his buddy who continued to catch fish in the spot. I decided that I would probably bail at 2 pm, limit or not, and as soon as I got firm with my decision my power mouse pole starts to go off! WOO HOO!! Hook set was accomplished and after a short fight I got fish number 5 to the shore to complete my limit just before 1 pm.

It was an awesome day out at the Vine today. Beautiful weather and a full stringer of quality fish. No action shots of me as I fished solo today but a couple shots of the lake, my neighbors and the fish when I finally got home.

This was a really nice 86 yr old man fishing to my right who was waiting for his son and grandson to show up. When he caught this fish it scared the hell out of me because I wasn't watching him but out of the corner of my eye I watched him lurch forward drop the pole he was holding....thought he was falling...or worse....but he was getting his skunk off!

The Sun Also Rises at Irvine! And a beautiful day in the making.

    And the finally the catch............

    Peace out..........
