Shimano Crucial -drop shot in either casting or spinning run about 200 bucks. Very nice rod and ltd lifetime warranty. I have the flipping stick and absolutely love it. Another is the calcutta spinning rods. a little over 200 bucks. My favorite rod.

The Phenix 76M is the only one I have first hand experience with. It is very sensitive and has more than enough backbone (my dad's legal halibut didn't outclass the rod). I like it a lot, and it has done everything I have needed it to do well. G. Loomis makes a nice rod too though. The warranties are pretty much the same, so they're both good. I'd see them in person before making a choice though.

In that case, Try looking at the new Okuma C3 rods as well, I played with one a little bit at the store and it definitely has some great potential..

I personally use the 6'8'' ds spinning cumara rod. Fantastic rod. It will be forever in my line up. It fits well with any 1000 size shimano rod. Balances well with any spinning reel weighing between 7.1 and 7.6 oz.

A 2500 sized reel might be a bit oversize for it. Well worth the money...but I have not tried a gloomis. Although there are many good reviews for it. Shimanos warranty policy tips the scales for me.
