Thread: NPH fish, What was it?

  1. #1

Default NPH fish, What was it?

Went in the back bay today, caught a few typical spotties then caught a weird fish that I have never seen before. Unfortunately my son took the picture on his phone then dropped the phone in the water while getting the boat out of the water.
It was deep green and looked kind of like a Sculpin. It had a sh#$ load of teeth with several rows in its mouth. There were 2 front teeth about 1/4" long in the front of its mouth. It was 17" long and 3 lbs. I caught it on a plastic jerk bait on the bottom near the coast highway bridge.

Still working on the phone. :x

    Midshipman..

Did it have rows of what you might call stitching up and down belly and sides(photophores)??

Otherwise look like a ling cod??

I think Nessie made the right call. My guess would be a midshipman as well. It could be a staghorn sculpin but I think it was a midshipman.
