    Default Shad Question...

I was reading WON today and most of the big bass seem to be caught on live shad. I'm not a bass man myself but do go out with a buddy every few months so my question is where do I get live shad? I know you catch it but where and how? thanks in advance.

You start by figuring what lake you want to catch the bass in then you catch the shad their and use them their only. You can only use live bait at the lake/river you catch them in.

You catch them at the lake you're fishing at with long handled dip nets. You an usually see them swirling at the surface and feeding. They look like little fish gasping for air at the surface. They're easily spooked. You have to really sneak up on them. I've heard of people pushing them towards the shore and using their trolling motor to create dirt clouds to contain them...but have not seen it in person.

DFG regs are very specific on their capture and use...
Make sure and read the regs on them and how, when, where you can use them..

Dip net, or hook (sabiki rig) ONLY (size of Net is specific also)...
Can NOT be taken when 'moving' in a boat (under any power).
Use ONLY at location they are taken (same lake etc)..

FYI, I hear they have a hard time turning corners??? and a ROUND container works best for survival???? (suicidal fast in square container)??

Good luck, they are sneaky/fast little boogers!!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard even if you are coasting from shutting down the motor is considered "under power"
