Thread: Main line matters?

    Default Main line matters?

I got 4lb test line on my reel; want to go down to a 2lb test line does the line on my reel matter since my leader line is 2lb flouro carbon line?

it depends what you mean by "matter". if you mean "will it help (will i really get any more bites) to go down to 2lb main line rather than your current setup", i don't know how many fish are turning you down now b/c they see the 4lb main line or your knot, but i'd go ahead and make the change. it will be better cause there won't be a splice anymore and the line will absorb shock more evenly than what you have now, with only a few feet of the lighter line. you really have to set your drag like you're fishing 2lb either way.
