    Default Lake Elsinore 1-17-09

launched at 6:30am at Lake Elsinore marina saturday for some wiper fishing. Worked the south end of the lake all morning por nada. Really nice weather, light breeze 55 degree water, carp rolling everywhere and a few wiper boils mixed in, but no love for us. Amazing amount of bird life working this lake. Threw traps, custom painted lipless cranks and even some live threadfin bait. couldn't buy a bite! Started trolling late morning and metered tons of bait and fish at mid lake. The fish were stacked like cords of wood around the aerators. Probably carp more than anything else. Finished off the day at rocky point and off the lake by 1:30 with a big-O-skunk! Talked to the marina operator at the launch ramp. Said two small skiffs slayed the wipers EARLY at the north end and were off the lake by 10:00 am. said one boat had 6 wipers to 28 inches all on traps. Can't confirm since I didn't see the fish, but he sounded honest. They sure didn't bite on the south end, wrong place at the wrong time I guess. Ohh well, next time.

by the way, the marina operator told us the lake was stocked last week with 18,000 6 to 8 inch wipers. 26,000LB'S of biger wipers were stocked in Nov. and the lake has received 8 wiper stockings since mid 2006.

With the overpopulation of Shad and the stocking of 18,000, 6" wipers The fish are not going to be hungry for a few months....
They are all gorged and sitting on the bottom, watching a football game and loosening their belts....

Kinda like, right after a big Thanksgiving dinner....
