Default Private Lakes and State License

    ---

Lakes like Vail don't need a CA fishing license to fish them...correct?

I have a friend who rarely fishes and I wanted to take him to Vail.

    Thanks

    From the Vail Lake website:

FISHING: $10 DAY FISHING LICENSE TO VAIL LAKE AVAILABLE FOR SHORE FISHING

Depends. Some lakes do and some dont. From what I know and have seen, most require a state license. As most privater lakes are owned by some sort of water district or another, state licenses are typically required. It used to be at the Fin and Feather one wasnt required. Guests would pay 15 bucks to get in with a member anyways, so it paid. But about 5 or 6 years ago they started requiring a state license. I do not know about Vail. Quite a few require a "special" day license to fish, along with your state license.

Irvine Lake is a Private lake and you do not need a Ca. State fishing lic. to fish there.
