Default A hike in Flyngby's Backyard

Took advantage of the Holiday when the whole family was off together for a day of hiking and stream fishing for trout. So my wife and I and our two boys met Steve (Flyngby) who was our fishing guide for the day at his home in the mouth of the Cyn about 1000. It was a late start but at least the canyon would be a little warmer. We messed around for a little while looking for Geo Caches with my oldest sons GPS and Steve's GPS around steves house. We finally started our hike up the canyon about 1130 for a day of CPR trout fishing!

Family Photo, from left to right are Anthony, Eddie, Rebecca and Aaron.

    Steve leading the way!

The plan was to hike straight up the canyon about a mile a large pool that Steve knew would be holding fish and then work our way down the canyon.

When we arrived Anthony was the first to bait up and get a cast in. His cast went over a floating log and being a more experienced fisherman I told him he should reel in and cast again so he did not get stuck on the log. He proved me wrong with the first fish of the day.

    Aaron was next!

    And Anthony again.

Here is steve helping Anthony out on the opposite side of the pool from me and Aaron.

Me and Aaron on our side of the pool.

Aaron got this one on our side.

Then mom came over and joined the fun. You can see the dam in the background.

Steve and Anthony negotiating a rock face to get back over from their side.

    Mom with another.

And another....it was non-stop action, every cast.

    Mom was having fun!

While we were fishing at the start of the Rose Bowl, we heard a large roar coming down the canyon and all looked up to see a Stealth Bomber fly over pretty low, it was a cool sight but none of us thought about taking a picture as we were all in Aww. I did get this shot on his return trip with a bit more altitude.

    I caught fish too!

Aarons last fish of the day.

Steve has more pictures of Anthony he will add. It was getting late and we wanted to beat the Rose Bowl traffic to the 210 so we started our hike back out. We ended up at that one pool all day.

    The hike out.

A few pics of the canyon on the way down.

One the way down I stopped and looked a decent pool and sighted a few fish in it and had to try and catch one.

Some of the fish were hooked a little deeper than we like, but we cut the line and released them with hope they will survive, they all swam off healthy so they should be fine. They are not the biggest fish but they are fun to catch. It was a great day for the family and we really enjoyed just being out together.

A big giant "THANK YOU" to Steve for the guided tour. Steve has worked hard the last two weeks to get others out fishing while he has been on vacation.

This is a video of me and Aaron......Gotta love watching kids fish.

    Happy New Year everyone!

    Eddie, Rebecca and the boys!

Anthony, Aaron, Becky, and Skipper Eddie,

Thanks for coming up to the house and enjoying my backyard on New Years Day as it has been some time since your last visit. The weather cooperated and was very nice for our adventure up the canyon.

The combination of GeoCaching and hiking to the fisihing hole made for an extended time frame but watching you all so determined to find the hidden treasure was priceless.

I think the little one is hooked the most as he keep asking me when we were going to find the next treasure. Great job Aaron on finding the hidden treasure at Stop, Elmer. No Fishing!

Here are the few pics I took today!
Anthony with a beautiful lil Native!!

Mom and Dad with Aaron on the other side of the pond.

Eddie thanks for the photo tour of the canyon as I slacked of on the photos today!

You are all welcome to return for another adventure with Chuck the Tour Guide any time you are all tired of that city life!!!!!

Eddie Great Job on the STEALTH BOMBER SHOT!!!!!!!

    Arthur,

I wish you could have joined us for the trip but you were supposed to go to the surf and then you went to the Big Game in my Front Yard. Lucky you!!!!

Sorry Buddy but we got to see your halftime entertainment of the Stealth about a minute before you and the 100,000 folks and we were had fish on!!!

It was a Photo Missed but Eddie did take advantage on the return to base.

    Take Care Buddy.

WOW who knew that backyard fishing in southern CA could be so good. Must be nice to have the whole forest at your disposal. That is awesome and looks like you guys had a great time. Glad to see some familiar land too.

Thats quite the gem of a place. No tagged up rocks and walls ? Keep that place quiet as possible or it will be trashed in no time. Great report and pics

Absolutely loved the report and the pixs.
    Excellent family outing.
You guys always have great reports.

Enjoyed seeing the boys get on some salties and then some freshies, they are lucky indeed to have some fun filled outings like that.
