Default Floating around the vine 12/23....

Got the word from the boss on monday that we would be closed for the rest of the week, with nothing really planned except for christmas day I figured...go fish! Since I wasnt able to make it to the vine over the weekend I thought a weekday would be good to roll out there and float the lake. Got there a few minutes before the gates opened and planned my attack. It was a few degrees above freezing temp. and didnt even second guess launching my float tube. I was out there with shorts and a sweater, laughing hearing people say how cold it was when they got out of their cars.

    outside temperature was...

Suited up and hopped in the lake, saw the dump truck making a plant and almost immediatlypeople were running to fish the boat launch. It was a real nice day with not that many people or boats on the lake.

    a look at trout island...

a view of the open water...

I was able to nab a few fish through out the day, keeping 2 and shaking 2 off the hook that were so small I proly would go to hell for keeping. Couldnt really hit the fish on the head today but was able to beat the skunk.

    the famous sink shot...

Around 2 o'clock the clouds started to move in from over the mountains, the temp. dropped and the water started to get choppy so I hopped on land to fish until it was time to go. Left the vine at 4:04, got to the freeway and I could already tell I was headed for trouble. Every single freeway I took had major back ups. I guess its good to beat the crowds on the lake during the weekdays but the traffic heading home is....well to put it short it took me almost 3 hours to get back to the valley I couldnt believe it pulling into the driveway at 6:48....oh well, like they say a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at the office, until next time.....im wishing everybody a safe and Happy Holidays.

My total catch was 1 shy of the limit but I wasnt pleased with the size fish that I was catching so I only kept 2 and released the other 2 alive with the smallest around 8". Some chic caught a monster towards the end of the day, but they must have dumped peanuts to even it out because they planted some lunkers last week.

thanks db, but in comparison to hunting I would consider that as shooting sitting ducks.

    Default Also Floating 12/23

I went to Irvine Tuesday with hopes of picking off one of the left over BIG trout. Got to the lake as the stock truck was leaving. Had to paddle out through a bunch of flopping fish at the ramp. I headed to the West Shore and enjoyed a really nice day on the water. Caught a few fish with none of any size to brag about. FishStix must have been the blue tube with the PVC rod holders because that was the only other tube I saw. I was exercising my Bucks Bags Toon. Nice ride but big and more boat than necessary. On the way in I saw the crowd at the ramp. Seemed to be doing well on the newly stocked trout.
    Sure beats watching TV
