....Sharks in the marinas?
I've been wanting to try out float tubing the salt but the thought of sharks chasing me or a hooked fish has crossed my mind more than once. What kind of shark can be lurking in the marina or harbors Im from Florida where there are bulls, lemons, hammers, black tips...etc(man biters) that roam the shallows and open water. The shark I fear the most here is the great white but arent they and makos open water sharks? I was watching an episode of Inside Sportfishing and some lady was knocked over on here kayak by a great white and it really got me re-thinking the idea.

i know that the bull shark range also includes close or up to san diego!!!!! that the one to think about

I would not worry about sharks fishing the bay, seems like the seal lions are more of a threat than anything! That great white incident took place at Catalina.....no bulls, lemons or hammerheads to stress on around here, at least none I have ever heard of anyway.
Have fun out there,

I tube the salt all the time i don't worry about sharks at all i am more scared of the big seals esp when they dive down.I think the white shark attack your talking about happend at catalina there are sharks and makos there but a real slim chance in are harbors. The things you have to watch for is what you are landing dont bring a leo on your tube or bat ray thats when things can go pop lol.Hooked fish can be a prob too i like to trap rig my live baits for halis but when your on a fish just kick a little bit so you can see the fish so it wont be under you.And let the fish fight don't bring them green/hot to you tube and have your boga grip/gaff ready. And keep track of wear you are placing your hooks and lures on your tube.

just be careful around the seals, and watch out for stingrays. When I tubed hungtington they kept following me around.

I saw a 6 foot blue shark inside Redondo harbor one time but he was swimming funny, I think he was sick or injured. Other then that I've never heard of any big sharks inside the local harbors.

Look at this way.....if you DO happen to get attacked by a shark in the bay after this thread, you will make us all feel very guilty and you will become an instant FNN icon!!!! That ain't so bad right?

Huntington Harbor Sharks
Lol dont tube near the Simple Green building in Huntington Harbor because I live on the water right there and I have seen a couple blues, lots of huge 5ft+ leo's and some big sandies but those ones wont hurt you. I throw in plenty of bait to keep the fishes around my place and have seen some huge seals visit my dock so just be careful if your by the Simple Green building..lol

I for sure wouldnt be able to tube in the marina. I would be TOO PARANOID to enjoy it.
