Default Bishop fishing 2 day report - ~200 fish caught

Yes, you read the title correctly, between me and and my friend, we caught about 200 fish. We had a great weekend full of trout, cold weather, and even near death experiences.

We left my friend Russ' place at about 11pm on Thursday night and arrived at Intake II at 4:30am. It was a very weird experience because when we got there, everything was pitch black, no moon, stars or anything, you couldn't see your own hand in front of your face, it was very weird. Anyway, we decided to sleep a little in the car until the sun came out so we could start fishing. It was very cold, windy, and rainy, and I was miserable. Even with my rain jackets, neoprene gloves, and warm clothes I was not a happy camper. We fished the lake for a few hours and I managed 2 browns and 8 rainbows on Lip Ripperz and Trout Magnets in pink/white and red. Russ got around 5 I think he said.

After that we decided to head down the mountain a little ways because it was just too cold to hang around there. We decided to hit a section of Bishop creek and it turned out to be a great decision. We found a stretch of creek that looked like no one had even touched in weeks, it was loaded with fish. We stayed here for a couple hours and were slamming trout left and right on Lip Ripperz. We both lost count on how many fish we got but we landed at least 30 each. The trick was to cast our jigs downstream, and kind of hop them off the rocks in the slower moving water.

At about 3pm we headed to our Motel to check in and get some lunch. At around 4:30 we decided to hit another part of the creek and got some more fish. We fished for an hour and a half (until it got dark) and I was able to pull in 15 trout, Russ caught I think a few more than I did at this spot. What was really interesting is about 30 minutes until dark, the trout stopped hitting everything I threw at them. Well Russ was ready to go so as I was making my last few casts, he found some left over Velvetta in his truck and decided to feed the trout to see if they would eat it. The second it hit the water, it got boiled on immediately. Obviously we decided to try it out and were able to pull in a few before we ran out of cheese.

Next day we decided to hit Pleasant Valley reservoir since neither of us have ever been there. Fished from 10am-2pm and I landed 27 bows and Russ got about the same as well. The fish here fought really hard, and would jump out of the air constantly when hooked. These fish were also very frustrating as well, we got short bit more times than we actually were able to hook up. One of the fish I hooked actually jumped out of the water about five feet away, and landed on my lap in the float tube. Definitely something I've never seen before. This lake was great, fish were boiling everywhere, and they fought great. Again Lip Ripperz was the key, and thats all I used.

After the reservoir we hit a part of the Owens in hopes of some brown trout. I found a nice pool, and first cast with a Lip Ripperz I get the biggest hit I've received all weekend, and this thing starts peeling drag. I brought it to color, and it was a very nice brown. I landed it, got a pic, and it measured out to be about 14". Shortly after, I got another one, and then Russ got a brown close to my big brown as well. Later in the day we hit a different spot on the Owens and encountered some difficult fishing due to it most likely being fished out. We found a nice pool only accessible to wading, and were able to pick up quite a few fish on Lip Ripperz again. I caught 10 rainbows and 2 browns, I forgot how many Russ got but he caught around the same as well.

Next morning we decided to head home and on the way we stopped at a creek. Here, I was able to get 2 of the biggest rainbows I got all week, as well as another 14" brown and a 10" brown. Russ landed 2 large trout as well. I had a near death experience here. We were fishing on a small bridge which hangs about 5' over a waterfall, and when I was reeling a fish, I decided to go around Russ and lost my footing. I slipped on the metal bridge, threw my rod (without even knowing) and barely caught myself on the concrete wall. The current here was really strong, and my feet got caught in the waterfall and the current started to pull my legs under. My arms were hanging on the wall, with only my hands holding me up, so as the current pulled my legs, my arms got scraped up pretty bad. I managed to pull myself up, and proceeded to reel in my fish (which amazingly stayed on my line throughout all of this).

All in all a great trip with many many fish caught. I ended up with 92 rainbows, and 9 browns for a total of 101 trout. Russ got just as many for a total of about 200 trout in two days, give or take. All fish were successfully/safely released on barbless hooks (except for 4 which we kept).

    CLIFFS:

    -Fish went stupid this weekend
-I got 101 trout including two 14" browns
-Russ got just as many for a total of about 200 fish
    -Lip Ripperz dominated
    -I almost died.

I've had a few 100+ days up there at Sabrina... when it's on it's on. Haven't had as much luck with the Lip Ripperz as of the last 4 trips I've taken up there this year, last year they were better and have no idea what affects that. Noticed more people using hardware like the bouyants and what not. Going to be cold this coming weekend, but I'm looking foward to it.

Nicely done boys! We are headed up tomorrow to a cabin in mammoth. Don't know exactly where we are going to fish yet. I'm watching the weather report like a hawk! I haven't really fished the Lip Ripperz up there....I use those down here at Corona. Are you using the worms or the Jigs and are you using weight? Drop Shot? We will probably hit the loop (if we can get in) and does anyone know if the marinas are open?

    Tonight on CSI FNN:
92 rainbows and 7 browns equal 99 trout!
I wanna say, "this report's pointless and just plain cr@p due to possible miscount!" On second thought, that's 90+ fish that I (and most) didn't land. Kudos and next time try strapping yourself to Russ so you don't go down alone.

Oops I just realized I put 7 browns instead of 9, thats why I said 101 trout originally, my mistake.
