With all due respect: nice catch....poor decision in killing it. I know its your right, but come on...be a bit more selective. Its not like you guys are starving for a meal. If you are really that hungry, next time you catch one that big, Take a pic and release it....then PM me and ill paypal you $20 so you can buy some fish to eat.

Big calicos are a limited resource, no matter how big the ocean they swim in is.

Also, dont act surprised that people are giving you crap over this...you know damn well that killing big calicos is as controversial as killing big LMB.

By keeping the full limit or larger size fish you are doing yourself and everyone else a great disservice. Since Calico's are very slow to grow they are susceptible to over-fishing. The big fish produce exponentially more eggs than smaller fish and therefore are the most important in producing a larger group of offspring each year. Please be responsible and spread the word about catch and release. If you are serious about catching a big Bass 10 years from now, you've got to be a conservationist. The average size of Bass has declined and will continue to decline if we do not take care of our fishery. I know I would like to catch a few over 10# and I would sacrifice keeping them now to catch more in the future."

hey vic most of us know that but some people dont get it or wont til its to late. they think cuz there are still the smaller grade fish of certain species that everything's fine they think they know everything

It is more successful to catch and relase a big calico like that than to kill it.....and I guarantee if i would have killed a LMB, you would be ripping me for it GARY......go kill some more huge batrays, for nothing more than to weigh it....just thought id mention that too while i was at it.......

It's a shame, that fish lived a long time just die for this. That fish should have been released. To try understand the situation from a saltwater anglers perspective it's like keeping a 12 lbs largemouth bass posting pictures then explaining about throwing it in the ice chest and how great the fillets tasted for dinner. You would not gain much support from the freshwater bass crowd. The saltwater crowd is no different. If anything calico is more precious because it takes a calico 2 to 3 times longer to grow 7lbs than it would for freshwater bass to grow to 12lbs.
